What does it mean?
Electronic signing of rental agreements is fully legally valid in Sweden under the EU eIDAS Regulation and the law on electronic signatures. Electronic signatures using BankID are classified as qualified electronic signatures and have the same legal effect as handwritten signatures. Services such as Scrive, DocuSign, and Assently are widely used by property management companies.
The advantages of digital signing include faster contract processes, reduced administration, traceability, and secure archiving. Both parties automatically receive a copy of the signed document. It is important that the signing service offers timestamping and verification, and that the signed document is saved in a format that cannot be altered afterward, such as PDF/A.
